MY EYES SEEN THROUGH YOURS

One of the biggest fears in society is judgment—how we often perceive and are perceived in a very two-dimensional way. Breaking free from the labels others have placed on us can be challenging, especially since we are constantly evolving. We fear and judge others to the point where we begin to fear ourselves. We fear our true selves and try to run away from that person within us who just wants to be acknowledged. How can this be such a universal issue, yet we fail to treat ourselves with the humanity we deserve?

Accept the fears that come with judgment, embrace the anxieties of being seen, and celebrate the human condition. You are always seen and heard. As humans, we are powerful, versatile, and complex.

Collaborating with artist Gabby Santos comes a vision of who worlds colliding, upon realising that they are in fact the same this entire time.
Often we perceive others as a completely different entity from us. However we are actually the same people in each other. You are able to see yourself in another person and another person is able to see themselves in you.
Understanding this rids the nature of comparison and brings forth compassion.

THE SNAKE

This showcase features the results of a six-week waving course taught by the incredible poppers and wavers Kris Gusti and Jason Nguyen at Crossover Dance Studios in Sydney.

Lana Lubany released a song where she incorporated Arabic into her music for the first time. Listening to it and hearing her sing the first verse in Arabic was a beautiful experience. Her singing truly highlights the beauty of the language. Incorporating one's own culture into their work is amazing; it not only showcases originality but also reflects self-love and acceptance of one’s heritage.

Inspired by her song about encountering negativity in the world for the first time, I wanted to embody that negativity in my performance. I envisioned myself as a snake, like Medusa, awakening from a long slumber to influence innocent minds. This storyline shaped my performance.

I also added a special touch to the performance with the costuming, done by my friend Tanya and me. We made the sleeves ourselves (Tanya did most of the cutting). I felt awesome in it!

Blue Shade is a collaborative production by Gabby Santos and Laura Huynh, sharing a vision of two seemingly different worlds colliding, upon realising that they are in fact the same entity this entire time.

Often we perceive others as a completely different entity from us. However we are actually the same people in one another. You are able to see yourself in another person and another person is able to see themselves in you.

Understanding this allows us to silence (but continue living with) the nature of comparison and bring forth compassion.

    My Eyes Seen through Yours

Something we fear the most in society is judgement- how we all can often be perceived (and perceive) a very two dimensional view of one another. Breaking away from the idea that people have created of you can be tough, especially as humans we are constantly changing.

We fear and we judge others so much to the point where we fear ourselves. We fear the person who we really are and we try to run away from it. We run away from the person inside of us who just wants to be recognised. How is this such a humane issue, yet we don’t treat ourselves like we are humane ourselves?

Accept the fears that come with judgement, accept the anxieties of the eyes, and celebrate the human condition.

You are always seen and heard. As humxns we are powerful, versatile and complex.
